Lighthouse Olive Oil
Geelong & Bellarine Peninsula
Lighthouse is a stunning Olive grove, home to 6,000 olive trees and a newly established 60-acre vineyard for Oakdene wines, right in the heart of the Bellarine. The extra virgin olive oils are processed at the property within hours of picking and tastings and sales are available at the Lighthouse Olive Oil Shop.
Above the shop is the Bellarine’s new restaurant jewel, Merne at Lighthouse. Merne is the indigenous name for ‘food from the earth.’ The restaurant menu is based around this key concept, encouraging long grazing lunches and dinners.
The Olive Oils
This year, after a huge harvest, Lighthouse has released 8 different extra virgin olive oils. Two blends have been created: the intense fruitiness and the medium fruitiness are two of their most popular oils. Lighthouse has also produced 3 varietals this year: frantoio, barnea and picual all with their own distinct characteristics. Last, but not least, there is also a crushed citrus range. The whole fruit is pressed with the olives to give a zesty, fresh flavour to the oil. This year, lemon, ruby red grapefruit, lime and jalapeno varieties make up the selection.
To sample or buy Lighthouse oils please visit Rosie at the Lighthouse Olive Oil Shop situated at the property under the restaurant. Rosie will guide you through the tasting and answer all questions about olives. Discover other gourmet pantry items for sale, olive oil products, Oakdene Wines and even baby olive trees to take home.
Restaurant – Merne at Lighthouse
Merne at Lighthouse is situated above the Olive Oil shop. The restaurant offers a multiple-dish grazing menu, as well as a selection of mains and desserts, to be shared while absorbing the view from the dining room. The food is responsibly sourced locally. Merne understands that produce is the hero and uses modern cooking techniques to elevate and highlight, without masking its natural beauty. Merne is open Thursday – Monday for lunch and Friday and Saturday nights for dinner.
