Warratina Lavender Farm
Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges
Enjoy the tranquil surroundings of this family run 5-acre lavender farm, an hour’s drive from Melbourne at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, in the beautiful Yarra Valley. Open all year round, it has many different seasons.
Come in summer (Nov-Jan) and walk among the rows of flowering lavender and breathe in its fragrance, before it’s harvested. In Jan/Feb you’ll get to see the harvested lavender hanging to dry in the drying sheds. Come later in autumn/winter and enjoy a local art exhibition and treat yourself to some delicious regional fare in their tea room (a late breakfast, lunch, or morning/afternoon tea), all made on the premises. Top tip: make sure you try their famous homemade lavender scones.
Warratina’s lavender products, using lavender grown on their farm, make great gifts and there are over 70 products to choose from in the adjoining gift shop, including: beauty products, household items and delicious lavender honeys, jams and mustards.
Although lavender is essentially a summer flowering plant, a winter visit to Warratina is very special indeed as you’ll see French winter flowering lavender in full bloom. This lavender has a deep purple flower, long stem and a magic fragrance that fills the air especially after the rain. After you’ve explored the grounds, warm up in the tea room after an invigorating walk, and enjoy a bowl of piping hot soup or pasta with a local beer or wine.
The lavender hedge provides a perfect Instagram photo opportunity! And owner, Annemarie, is on site daily to answer any questions you might have about lavender – you can even buy a plant from their nursery, and try growing it yourself!
