Healesville Sanctuary

Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges

Explore a bushland haven for Australian wildlife at Healesville Sanctuary, just one hour from Melbourne in the stunning Yarra Valley wine region. Wander through the tranquil tracks and meet iconic Australian animals including koalas, kangaroos, platypus, dingoes, wombats and emus. Each day, the Sanctuary offers opportunities to hear its expert keepers talk about the animals in their care and the conservation work being done for various species. There are also opportunities to put yourself in the front row when you book a close up animal encounter with one of our experienced Rangers.

Enjoy the numerous tracks throughout Healesville Sanctuary including the Wurundjeri Walk which celebrates the life of Indigenous Elder William Barak, a protector of his people and his culture. The walk takes visitors to a Dreaming Place, and passes an ancient scar tree, bark canoe and Gunyah. Emotive soundscapes unfold as four generations of Elders reflect on their family stories and the spiritual heartland of Coranderrk Station. See Australia’s most beautiful feathered friends show off their skills of flight and foraging in the Sanctuary’s twice daily Spirits of the Sky presentation.

Healesville Sanctuary’s Australian Wildlife Health Centre treats and cares for more than 1,500 native animals every year. Visit the Centre and meet the vets and nurses, as they treat sick, injured or orphaned wildlife in need of care.

Healesville Sanctuary is one of Australia’s most loved tourist attractions and the best place in Victoria to see and interact with native Australian wildlife. The Sanctuary is committed to fighting wildlife extinction and offers visitors the opportunity to come up close to unique Australian animals in a stunning bushland setting.
