Chief's Son Distillery

Mornington Penisula

Chief’s Son Distillery produces internationally awarded single malt whisky, with category wins at the World Whiskies Awards, medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and gold at the 2026 Australian International Spirits Awards. Based in Somerville, 40 minutes from Melbourne, it is one of Australia’s largest family-owned single malt distilleries and the only single whisky distillery on the Mornington Peninsula. Every whisky is hand crafted in small batches from hand-selected barrels.

Established in 2013, Chief’s Son also crafts N7 Single Malt Vodka, Black Forge Coffee Whisky Liqueur and TAWNY, a whisky barrel aged tawny port. Its whiskies are aged in French Oak ex-Apera barrels, alongside collaboration releases with local artisans. Enjoy a guided tasting overlooking the barrel bond, paired with a cheese platter or chocolate.

Join a tour with our distillers to step onto the working distillery floor, see a copper still up close and sample new make and whisky straight from the barrel. Tour guests can also bottle their own cask strength whisky to take home.

Travelling with a larger group? We’re happy to host a private tour with our Head Distiller.

The Distillery Door stocks award-winning whiskies, vodka, coffee/whisky liqueur, tawny port, glasses, gift boxes and merchandise, with worldwide shipping.
