Polperro Winery

Mornington Peninsula

Established in 2009, Polperro Wines is the home of estate-grown, single vineyard expressions of unique sites on the Mornington Peninsula and Even Keel, their label-at-large, celebrating a number of cool climate regions of Australia.

The beating heart of Polperro, their home and cellar door, lives under the shade of ancient, giant Angophora Myrtaceae trees in Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. Their wines are hand-crafted, the business is family-owned.

Vineyard Dining

Polperro Vineyard Dining’s holistic approach extends to their onsite restaurant. About a kilometre (as the crow flies) from their ‘Vineyard Dining’ lies Polperro Farm, a certified organic, biodynamic, small-scale regenerative farm.

A dish may germinate in the field but the first inkling of Chef’s “shopping list” starts up to 12 months in advance. Farmer and chef work hand-in-hand: planning what to sow, preparing beds, germinating seeds, cover cropping, transplanting.

Polperro grows from their own saved seedbank while championing heirloom varietals and interesting cultivars. And as any gardener will tell you, there’s nothing like nurturing an ingredient from seed to harvest to ensure it will be prepared in a way that honours its integrity.

This ensures produce is harvested at its peak and eaten at its peak. In high summer they able to supply up to 90% of their own fresh produce, slowing to about half in the winter. The Polperro team likes to think of it as a celebration of the land and the nourishment it provides.

Cellar Door

Polperro’s cellar door provides the opportunity to explore Polperro and Even Keel wines straight from the home of the labels. The intimate interior showcases the range in a sophisticated space designed by Melbourne-based design firm, Hecker Guthrie. Seating a maximum of just eight guests at a time allows the Cellar Door experience to be both thorough and attentive.
